Project 2025 wants to put Hyun Sook and I, and anyone else who writes books they falsely scream "pornography" at, in prison. They want the teachers and librarians who shelve our books to be registered sex offenders. I know what books they consider "porn," because my book banners are on their board.
Psst: Project 2025 is terrifying for a lot of reasons but also because on page 5 it calls for teachers and librarians who grant access to books that are maligned as pornography (which just means anything LGBTQ) to be registered as sex offenders. Pass it on.

A lesson from an old boxer, AND a guy whose been in politics, AND an attorney: If you think you're gonna lose, you're probably right. A lot of good can happen if you take a breath, put your mouthguard in, and fight.

I know there is a lot going on, but an unusually high number of CIA agents were killed, captured, or compromised after Trump stole classified documents about them. Just thought I should remind everyone of that.

Something people are sleeping on: One of the 4 state justices who voted to make abortion illegal in Iowa in late June, David May, is up for retention this fall. This was a 4-3 decision. One of 3 states in which justices who upheld bans this year are up: boltsmag.org/your-state-b...

As someone whose plans for the future went from "I should be able to retire at 65" to "I don't know if my body will hold up that long" within the span of the last two years, I urge all of you to remember this.
Because, again: Disability is the only minority anyone can join at any time, & which everyone will join, if they're lucky enough to live that long. A disease, a quirk of genetics, a bus, a bad fall from a curb. Anything. And the only thing we have that could consistently make this fact survivable…

you can't persuade someone who thinks they're good to be *more* good by telling them that they're bad. What you can do, sometimes!, is tell them that they are good, and then give them more things to be good about, and more ways they can be good.

but "you're stupid hypocrite for not already caring about what was important" doesn't seem like it's it. Even "it's not too late to start caring about real problems" seems bad to me, because the people who *will* care are already the sort of people who *don't think of themselves as not caring"

Google “Massachusetts crisis pregnancy” and this link pops up. It’s part of a statewide campaign, including public signage (highway billboards!), urging people to avoid crisis pregnancy/anti-abortion centers. The Commonwealth is not fucking around with this.

I don't know if the people writing this crap understand this or not, but they should: "fetal personhood" as a concept mandates treating pregnancy termination and pregnancy loss (under whatever circumstances prosecutors want to define it) as homicide

I did not want Biden to run in 2020, and yet here I am seeing the amount of progressive stuff on the environment, labor, taxes, infrastructure, and other domestic issues, and being a bit boggled at how much his administration has accomplished. so yes, exactly what you say: the moneybags hate him.

The Kansas Supreme Court reaffirmed abortion protections in the state’s Constitution on Friday. It struck down Republican-backed laws that banned a common second-trimester abortion procedure and that created new licensing requirements for abortion clinics.
Kansas Supreme Court Rejects Republican-Backed Abortion Regulationswww.nytimes.com The rulings were the latest blow for abortion opponents in Kansas, where abortion protections in the State Constitution have vexed Republicans for years.

Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.

Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.

The United States has always been a democracy for some and a brutal authoritarian regime for others, and the effort to expand it to democracy for all has led to a 70+ year backlash culminating in SCOTUS claiming that kings are totes cool and also judges are the ones to coronate them

Orphaned wells are a climate and public health nightmare. The oil industry continues to dump *billions* in cleanup costs onto taxpayers and is fighting reform efforts. Fantastic reporting by Mark Olalde for @propublica.bsky.social on an issue that rarely gets the attention it deserves:
How America’s “Most Powerful Lobby” Is Stifling Efforts to Reform Oil Well Cleanup in State After Statewww.propublica.org In New Mexico, oil companies agreed to work with regulators to find a solution to the state’s more than 70,000 unplugged wells. After months of negotiations, the industry turned against the bill it he...

Reminder that there are five ways to address the current SCOTUS problem. 1. Impeach some justices 2. Impose term limits 3. Expand the courts 4. Pass legislation limiting court prerogatives 5. Keep winning the presidency for the next 16 years or so while periodically also holding the senate.

abortion and birth control are miracles. they are such incredible pinnacles of human achievement, and they are crucial tools allowing us to work toward a world where all children are deeply wanted and eagerly anticipated, and where all people who give birth + parent can flourish

The idea of “PhD level intelligence” is very funny to me, personally, because I have worked with scientists for 20 years. I know someone who has helped find treatments for diseases we didn’t even think were possible and also struggled to understand how the hot tap of a water cooler worked.
