BREAKING NEWS: Voters turned out in numbers not seen in decades to stop the far-right National Rally from taking power in the French National Assembly. Polls predicted a first-place finish for National Rally, which instead came in third in initial results as polling stations closed.

If Biden said something like this it would spell the end of not only his campaign but his current tenure. It's just one of countless examples of insane gibberish from Trump that the press & Democrats are choosing to treat as an immutable part of the electoral landscape rather than a story or issue.

"Executive Time" fell out of the coverage of Donald Trump in the most incredible way. Nobody writing about his quest to become president again ever mentions the fact that he hated the job when he had it and he couldn't and wouldn't really do it!
The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared

"I don't know anything about Project 2025" says man recording Project 2025 promotional video in front of Project 2025 publication. More substantively, Project 2025 has embraced Trump and Miller's immigration approach of using power to close both legal and illegal immigration.

I really don’t think most people realize just how hard the boot will come down if Trump and the Republicans win the election. Most people have never experienced the totalitarian surveillance state with the power to reach into their homes and minds at will they are telling us is their plan.

If you paid attention to Trump's side of the debate, he had the same underlying problem Biden did, where over and over he would start a sentence and realize he couldn't say or remember the words that would come next, but where Biden stalled out, Trump just switched to blurting something unrelated
Donald Trump has good days and bad days but increasingly only bad days. He's lost it - he can't focus and his brains are leaking out his ears, but the press is very impressed with him because HE CAN STILL SHOUT

So a President who is effective on labour, gets the economy going and unemployment down, is suddenly a bad choice because of one bad debate- that he gave clear answers in, while the other guy spouting lies and refusing to say if he would accept the results of the election is the other choice.

I gotta say that people are having a lot of trouble distinguishing cognitive decline (Trump) from age-related changes in expression (Biden). Biden is elderly and talks like it. Trump literally does not have preserved reality-testing

Where are the pundits weighing in on Project 2025's training academy, and just who they're recruiting, and what exactly they're teaching in this training academy? (By unverified accounts, it's all terrifying, especially because it's so structured?) It's so, so easy for a pundit to opine about-

The interview ends and they cut to George outside and it is QUIETER. They know they have someone with a soft voice and they undercut him with a constant noise. I've done enough TV I know how they can judge background sound and ABC News did not do its job. Shameful.

The sound sucks in this interview. What is the constant hum in that room? Biden is badly mic-ed. What the hell, ABC?

you are not crazy, this is an entirely true statement that many, many more people need to print out, tape up to their mirror, and ground themselves with every morning. it is fucking JULY. everybody needs to pop an edible and calm the fuck down.
Am I fucking crazy, or has this been one shitty debate performance, followed by a week plus of story after story about "panic" etc? No new evidence that he's unable to do it, just constant "people are saying"?

My favorite part of the West Wing fantasies about replacing Biden is the idea that there wouldn’t immediately be a new fatal flaw with whoever replaced him.
I don't take the age thing seriously. THEY PICK A LIE ABOUT EVERY DEM, and the press knows it's some BS but plays along. They know that the other guy is worse in every way, especially his brain. They turned being a war hero into a liability against a fortunate son draft dodger.

Ex-Evangelicals have written about this dynamic at great length and I don't have anything to add to their insights, but I do think that folks interested in building civic capacity around democracy should be mindful of the space between baddies who are more vs. less knowing and willful about it.
