French crushed the far right and the Brits jettisoned the conservatives. We can fucking do this
A widely predicted victory for the far right in France has instead turned into a victory for the left *because people turned out in record numbers to vote.* Defeat is not inevitable and more progressive elected officials means more progressive policies.

Also: Get off your arse and vote. My constituency was won for Labour by 15 votes. A high turnout from the French sorted this. You don't vote? Well, the fash do. If you're replying to this with why it's ideologically impure for a truly left wing person to vote, please just block yourself, I'm tired.

Folks, if you know or follow Palestinian fundraising, please share this with them. More accounts are being labeled spam.
This information sheet is now updated with an Arabic translation- please feel free to send it to any account you see doing fundraising for people in Gaza (you don’t need to validate the fundraiser first or anything- it is just general information) docs.google.com/document/d/1...

I donate monthly to an abortion fund. Maybe I can do a little more to another state. After the Arkansas win to get abortion on the ballot, maybe others are trying that as well.
This is the Blue State Challenge. It's for people in blue states who feel frustrated with what's happening in red states. 1: Pick your most hated (or most loved) Red State. 2: Choose an issue you care about. 3: Find a group in that state working on that issue. 4: Support that group.

Wow. @nytimes.com has closed their Threads account and left the platform after days of getting just shredded in the replies for their handling of Biden post debate. Now they're getting dog piled on Instagram for running from Threads.

Plus it ruined our jobs (and our minds) having to add tweeting to our marketing and PR jobs.
People who need bluesky to be twitter for business reasons really don't remember how long it took twitter to become a viable platform for promotion. Also it held that position for less than a decade.

Nature does not abhor a vacuum. 99.9999999999999999999958% of the Universe is empty. The rest is old boots and stars and tea stains and you. But atoms are also 99.9999999996% empty. Everything is mostly nothing really. Looking at it that way, it’s easy to justify eating an entire tub of ice cream.

As well-meaning publishers try to navigate the coming storm of state laws against diversity, I hope they'll consider Timothy Snyder's Rule #1 (from his slim book ON TYRANNY).

Johnny McEntee, one of Trump's most loyal deputies who is in regular contact with him, is literally one of the people collecting resumes for staffers who would implement Project 2025. Shame on any journalistic outfit who takes this "truth" at face value.
Today in "Trump didn't write this, someone on his campaign staff did." I don't know if Kellyanne Conway is working for Trump these days but this feels more like her style, voice, and syntax than Trump or those posting on his behalf recently.

I have never in my life experienced anything like the Apocalypse Now sequel that happened these past 2 nights this tiny W.WA island (fireworks). What the hell?

so as a general fyi: after a fantastic 4.5 years, I have left my post at the state of New Mexico as of, uh, today I am taking July (and half of August) off! And then I'm going to go make all sorts of trouble as a clean power policy specialist for Western Resource Advocates (an eNGO). 😄

I listened to NPR for like five minutes today. They had on Sarah Isgur to talk about what a tough spot Roberts was in because Biden was prosecuting his opponent for a crime for which he wasn’t impeached.

🧵Alright, let's take a long, threaded trip around the area through the camera's eye of USGS scientists on July 2, 1980. We'll start at the center of it all—Mount St. Helens and Spirit Lake. With clearer conditions, the devastation and change at the mountain's base are evident.

Most that are EV advocates (I'm one) argue, that IF you're going to buy a new car, THEN make it an EV. It's not to sell/junk your current ICE car immediately. Same argument goes for the used market, though used EVs are harder to come by (in the US).

Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵
“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear. In a nutshell, NO. We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb! #canadaday

It's important to note that this single-post analysis above is entirely consistent with a much more comprehensive analysis by @ketanjoshi.co showing that changes in the X algorithm and moderation policies that began in Oct 2022 have massively favoured trolls and penalized climate scientists. See:
Musk is remaking Twitter into a climate denier sanctuaryketanjoshi.co I got some data that analyses how climate deniers have changed their audience size, relative to pro-climate accounts, on Musk's Twitter. It's....not good.
