My favourite genre of comics is “made by someone with no fear of being cancelled by a 15 year old on social media”

Hey it's me, Sonic the Hedgehog! Did you know you don't have to write every thought you have on the computer? That's right - believe it or not there are many cases where the thrill of likes and reposts do not outweigh the potential real world consequences, regardless of how unlikely they are!

Think I’ve finally come to the conclusion I need to get a coverup for my one sad, ancient tattoo. If anybody has done this and can talk process or recommend artists, my DMs are open.

"Tell them they are playing an empty arena on X when they could be playing Bluesky’s packed ballroom." 100%, yes, this. I'm having this conversation everywhere right now.
The follower count on X is an accumulated number, not a current one. It’s like the ticker on a turnstile in an abandoned railway station, showing everyone who passed through over 18 years. That number doesn’t mean the station is packed. boringstorybook.com/break-up-wit...

It is a startling fucking failure as a person to look at the French election and think the lesson is to just go out and vote. Or else. Give people something to vote for, for fuck's sake.

i will never stop being furious at large language models being successfully branded as "artificial intelligence" they're not conscious & functionally can't be; they don't "hallucinate," they fail to generate appropriate outputs

sometimes i think about how sick it would be if i was one of those guys who believed ai really was super smart and worked right. it would be awesome. Peek a boo would go so hard

We spent $365 to build an AI news site that publishes 50 times a day, plagiarizes directly from our original reporting, uses services like Fiverr and popular WordPress plugins, is SEO optimized for Google and Adsense & breaks the rules of none of them www.404media.co/i-paid-365-6...

Today was a good day, because today was my first day on the job in my new role as the Director, Brand Development at CATAN Studio! As penance for jobposting, here’s me sitting on one of their sheep.

super excited for the day AI will be able to take over the most tedious tasks of daily life such as making art, engaging with art, maintaining human relationships, etc., so that I can focus on my true passion: creating value for shareholders

When it works it's AI, when it fails it's just an algorithm.

The Twitter acquisition was completed in October 2022, and that’s around the time that website started to become unusable, so this tracks.
The Sesame Street twitter's #pridemonth tweets provide a clear timeline of the current moral panic being generated out of nothing. I've taken the biggest comment count each year as an indicator: 2019: 200 2020: 400 2021: 500 2022: 600 2023: 6,700 2024: 8,100

A thing I enjoy is discovering after I’ve left a job that the stuff I used to just handle on my own is now done by entire teams, or not done at all and chaos reigns. For a very specific definition of “enjoy”.
my cemetery has tons of historical correspondence by employees going back almost 200 years and i like to read it and make myself insane thinking about how much more shit i am expected to do in a day than these people and how i am not even actually making that much more money than them

There's an interesting problem in digital preservation, which is that preservation only exists actively. Only the things you actively move to new formats, survives. Community is probably the same way: it has to be actively maintained in order to outlive whatever spot it's currently in.

Late to the party but -- Yeah it was intentional. We all had enough experience with Twitter to know that blocking turns into discourse about the blocking. The goal is to put an end to a fight, and the best way to do that is to just clobber the whole exchange.

(The nuclear take: You don’t have to enjoy a game to work on it! It’s a job! In fact, if everyone who works on the game is too invested in it, you all but guarantee you lose objectivity and lack sufficient perspectives.)
You don’t have to like the game to be its lawyer. I hated Destiny and was so terrible at Pokémon battles that I was considered a bye in the office tournament. The last game I worked on that I liked was Mass Effect.

One of the things I constantly reiterate is use of language matters. There are limitless examples of ways in which real issues or stereotypes are intentionally weaponized by people who have realized that deploying the right words the wrong way gets them what they want
Countless little incurious dullards learning the time-honored tactic of concern-trolling over an issue they don't actually give a fuck about to provide cover for the thing they actually want to do, which is be extremely racist

all the culture you liked from decades past was made possible by cheap rent and artists' pay keeping up with what things cost
It's because we all have day jobs, advances are pennies, publishers don't market, one underperforming book tanks your career, and we're expected to be well-tuned brand machines on social media websites designed to suck our souls dry.
