Just finished reading In the Shadow of the Dragon, one of the newest BattleTech novels. I need to re-read the Dark Age books because this reminded me I need a refresher on them. (And maybe just slightly holding out hope that my character makes an appearance again someday)

This whole excerpt tells you multitudes about our current political moment.

This whole thread is full of great resources for when you're trying to convince your family about just how bad things are right now.
A fun fact about JD Vance is that he's openly backed purging anyone who disagrees with him from the government, comparing it to "de-Nazification," and illegally defying court orders to do so.

This is what AOC and Bernie get for sticking by Biden, and we can debate the policy, but this is a super-tangible win for the left side of the Democratic Party

The meekest immigrant doing the most humbling manual labor is just trying to improve his life and support his family. It’s the same reason Vance degrades himself before a man he knows is a fraud, and who seems to enjoy humiliating him. The difference is that there’s honor in manual labor.
I oppose this worldview—this theory of America—with every fiber of my being.

Apologies in advance for what might look like a rambling diatribe going nowhere. But the one thing I know really well - better than almost anyone else - is boxing. And there’s a really valuable lesson from boxing that the Democratic Party needs to learn in a hurry. Let’s start with the boxing bit.

all I had to do was click on one sticker ad on IG and suddenly my feed was full of other sticker ads. I clicked on them all and did the math for you. The best small-run samples pricing is at SlapCo; best overall pricing is at Sticker Cyborg or Sticker OG Factory. docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
I use StickerGiant. I have for years. Their staff is friendly and their stickers are cheaper than Sticker Mule’s anyway.

Folks this is pretty much true EVERYWHERE now. If your city plants a tree somewhere, odds are really good that's all they're going to do for it, and if it's getting too hot and dry in Seattle for young trees to survive... Adopt a new tree near you. Give it a milk jug of water once or twice a week.
Seattle friends! Know how the city has been planting saplings to replace trees that have died from heat/drought/age? The city does not actually water them regularly! In this dry heat, a lot of them are dying. Gator bags say they need 15 gal/week. If you see one in distress on your street, adopt it.

If you’ve shared this but haven’t read it yet, you should. PEOPLE isn’t pulling punches. Just printing “Christian Nationalism” in relation to the platform of a presidential candidate is more than many pubs have done.

In almost one month, I’m looking forward to starting a new job. I hate leaving my current one which is so easy, but I just can’t deal with the ones there anymore. I’ll still volunteer to work some OT there some, but I can try and at least work with people I do like working with.

Lost in the ongoing Trumpapalooza is the excellent news that a malaria vaccination developed at Oxford Univ. over the last 30 years and costing only £3 per shot is being unrolled in malaria-prone countries. If it fulfills its promise, this will make an enormous difference to so many lives.

I just don't get how a Republican could ever conceive the idea that shooting someone is okay.

Fun fact: when I was eleven years old, I met Richard Simmons in the Crystal Court in downtown Minneapolis. He told me a story from his childhood and gave me a kiss on the cheek and told me, "Whatever world you step into, do your best to make it beautiful."

I’ll say one other thing; I don’t care how many hours have passed since the assassination attempt, there are just some people I’m not willing to take lessons on violent or irresponsible rhetoric from, or hear them out in good faith ever on this issue. Get fucked, fuck off, next.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for some people -- not necessarily politicians, but the rest of us -- to say something like "Trump has encouraged political violence for the better part of a decade and has been promising to do it with the government if he wins. I do not sympathize with him."

Political violence always benefits authoritarians because liberals will always condemn it and authoritarians, regardless of whether they are perpetrators or victims, will always use it to claim more power.

Scott Jennings on CNN right now saying this is on Dems for saying Trump will end democracy on the US. And Bash and Blitzer are like, yes, we have to tamp down the rhetoric on both sides. Absolute marks. Jesus Christ.

Just going to note, regarding "political violence" that three and a half years ago, Trump was encouraging a mob of people who wanted to hang his own VP.

Quick points: 1) Assassination attempts are bad, period. 2) We do not know the motives of the shooter. 2) We do not know the political consequences of this event. There were attempts to shoot Teddy Roosevelt, Gerald Ford, and Jimmy Carter shortly before elections; they all survived and lost.

Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

Popping on to say: A lot of rumors are about to fly about this rally. Trump's team is 100% going to try and take advantage of this situation. So will malicious foreign actors/bots/etc. Please don't auto share. Check your sources, and vet their wording/sourcing carefully.
