I've asked people this: How does your not voting help the Gazans? I do not get a clear answer. So bascially, it's about them feeling better about themselves.

They're going to "free Palestine" the US right into fascism, which will be even worse for Palestinians anyway. There's zero nuance or strategic thinking at play.

People are getting confused and thinking this means I think Joe Biden is the ideal candidate or that nobody else would do a better job - not true! I just think that decision was made four years ago and reversing it is a guaranteed path to utter catastrophe
Joe Biden refusing to take advice from people who have been wrong about everything for decades could be seen as an indication his brain is still working

The discourse around biden needing more sleep is fully insane. Does no one remember "Executive Time," the thing Trump spent the majority(!) of his schedule on where he would just watch TV and tweet? Dude was categorically unable to fulfill any of the demands of the office and the press barely cared

On INDEPENDENCE DAY they published this. ON THE FOURTH OF JULY 2024 THE NEW YORK TIMES TOLD PEOPLE NOT TO VOTE. I'm furious.

Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

A debate that few watched didn't move the polls. It's the pundit narrative afterwards! Which is just straight up R talking points - that Biden is too old. Imagine if the media/pundit narrative was instead about how unhinged Trump was/is. Could've moved the needle the other way.

Looking for one person to join me today in donating to flipping both statehouses in Arizona to create a new trifecta for democracy. This is the smartest political donation we can make this year.

Keeping Trump out of the White House isn’t the only thing that needs doing and it isn’t enough to solve all problems facing the country & world but if it isn’t done then all those problems get exponentially worse in ways I don’t even know how to express and it scares me when people pretend otherwise

I feel like the Supreme Court gave themselves the most power ultimately, because the way the ruling is written it gives them total control. It makes them the King makers. They just set themselves up for the best bribes of their lives, for the rest of their lives, and all it cost was our democracy.

I dunno dawg, creating the legal basis for an imperial presidency wasn’t a punt, but yeah democracy dies in darkness or whatever

Probably one of the most consequential moments for the future of our democracy and the @nytimes.com still does this. Fuck them every way to Sunday.
What the actual fuck, NYT?

The United States has always been a democracy for some and a brutal authoritarian regime for others, and the effort to expand it to democracy for all has led to a 70+ year backlash culminating in SCOTUS claiming that kings are totes cool and also judges are the ones to coronate them

“What makes you so confident you should be president?” is an actual question a reporter shouted at the incumbent who just warned about a reckless court decision that imperils democracy

You might remember, as I do, the two Trump impeachment hearings, where CJ Roberts officiated. He sat there like a bump on a log, not saying a word or even lifting any eyebrow when Trump's attorneys like Pat Cipollone, Robert Ray and Pam Bondi spewed lies. What was he even there for?

No question that a second Trump administration orders officers to open fire on protestors and some of them comply. What happens next is anyone's guess, but that feels like a certainty.

One of the cool things about this new Supreme Court ruling is that since you take bribes in exchange for "official acts" pretty much by definition, the president is now free to take bribes! I wonder if that's something Donald Trump might take advantage of.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

The Court ruling today is terrible but expected. I will just gently remind everyone that the election hasn’t happened yet. We shouldn’t assume the worst outcome as a foregone conclusion. That only encourages more apathy than many are already feeling.

Let's-see-how-you-like-it fantasies in response to the Supreme Court immunity ruling are underestimating just how bad the situation is. Any prosecutions would take place in courts, where SCOTUS would block it. This term especially, the SCOTUS majority has shown that its standards are Calvinball.
Under today’s immunity decision, Biden could order AG Garland to immediately prosecute Thomas and Alito for corruption and insurrection. (Official act). If Garland refuses, Biden can fire him and replace him with someone who will. (Official act) I would suggest Elie Mystal.
