This is the kind of *incredible* journalism I'm so glad to see from @nytimes.com. Don't retract the article where you let a right-wing monarchist straight up lie, don't issue a correction, or inform readers he's a far-right lunatic, just change the headline from present to future tense.
Lmao they just changed the title of the piece from “Why I don’t vote” to “Why I won’t vote” rather than tell readers that the guy actually does vote

Over at the Bad Place, I made a tradition of posting Douglass' "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth of July," and I intend to carry on that tradition here. Since most versions you read in classes or in textbooks have parts omitted, the link below has the full text of the speech.
(1852) Frederick Douglass, "What, To The Slave, Is The Fourth Of July" •www.blackpast.org On July 5, 1852, Frederick Douglass was invited to address the citizens of his hometown, Rochester, New York. Whatever the expectations of his audience on that 76th anniversary of the signing of the D...

Please explain to me why the bids on this aren't higher? It's an hour. With MS. BEV. And the bid is still *ridiculously* low. If nobody else bids on it, the current high bidder is going to get one HELL of a bargain. www.32auctions.com/organization...

right wing think tanks are making thinly veiled threats of political violence, the Supreme Court has neutralized the regulatory power of broad swaths of government, and the fate of the executive branch depends on whether the 81 year old atop it can learn to breakdance or something. Happy July 4th

It’s been my impression from the start that someone started this BS & those who saw a chance to get attention all piled on, knowing the media canNOT resist making things worse and/or trying to gin up horseshit into a story Joe just better not wear a TAN SUIT

Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

this is the only rational approach to allegations about Donald Trump and sexual assault
If these accusations turn out to be untrue, this will be the first time an accusation leveled at trump about sexual assault WASN'T true. Unless he can prove he didn't, my default position is he did

I think if he stays in the should-he-drop coverage eventually stops or at least slows to a trickle as it no longer becomes practical, e.g. past ballot-printing deadlines. And Biden Old is baked in to some degrees. Might be more risk with a new candidate getting their own But Her Emails storyline.

Sourcing on most of these stories is pretty thin. Every editor wants a story along the same lines. On debate night, Biden did better later, and at the after even.

Thy grand irony is that this is the ideal presidency: hands off, rested, making sure that when he needs to make a decision, he's operating at maximum capacity. It's not what we as voters want, but I do feel a large part of management is sitting back and figuring out what actually needs attention.

The reason the media couldn't really cover this lawsuit extensively is because she dropped her lawsuit on November 4, 2016, just four days before the election, and her real name was never revealed. She had received death threats, according to her lawyer, despite never being named publicly.
Looks like something useful is happening on the Nazi site - this court document about Donald Trump’s involvement in the Epstein case is going viral This is a disgusting read

The other message they’re promulgating is that the votes of literal millions of people who DID choose Biden in the primary are irrelevant, and that it’s not only okay but desirable for the party leadership to override them

to be extremely clear: I think the focus on this over "the Supreme Court declares Trump is a king above the law" and the dangers of Project 2025 is dangerous, irresponsible and unacceptable but it is a significant danger to Biden's chances of winning in November

Fucking unbelievable that the big publications are running with this as the lead story after the Supreme Court just promised to install a convicted felon rapist insurrectionist as Emperor for Life.
IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

This speech really hits harder in Andreas Katsulas' voice.
"The war we fight is not against powers and principalities: it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender..."

And I’ll add for the millionth time that one of the reasons the times said it didn’t need a public editor anymore was because it was now responsive to readers on social media — and then immediately began categorically dismissing any criticism on social media
For about the millionth time, I’ll just say — having a public editor who could ask people how this happened and lay it out for readers would actually make the paper look better than fucking up this badly and then walking away from it without saying a word.

Always the tone of surprise from people who don't do SW, but they've been pushing us further and further to the margins for YEARS. No one wants to discuss how many people rely on it to survive, supplement income, get through crisis. This is exactly as the fascist fuckmuppets intended.

this has always been one of the most terrifying aspects of climate change to me what happens, politically, when climate refugees number in the hundreds of millions? nothing good, that’s for sure
this is the right wing movement we get with a little migration and inflation. what does it look like when climate change really starts to bite

the absolute funniest shit about CNN being like "we can't fact check Trump its not what we do" is that after the Rice Truck Debacle incident with my family they were in my inbox(and those of others) running various fact checks and clarifications on that absolutely zero significance event for DAYS

Yup. Lots of people pointing out obviously this would be weaponized against LGBTQ folks. But also it just fundamentally bristles with a hostility towards privacy and freedom that runs through the entire project.
And, their definition of "porn" includes acknowledging the existence of trans people.

This is the explicit goal of an astonishing amount of paid (and paid for!) propaganda out there. If you're feeling voting doesn't matter, maybe consider why it is so many people are spending so much money, time, effort and ad space trying to convince you not to.
