every day I feel like I'm losing my mind as people look at a statistically tied race where one guy is a felon with deeply unpopular positions who ALREADY LOST THIS EXACT RACE and are like "he is 100% for sure going to win"

Reminder for no particular reason that no one knows how this election will turn out, no one can foresee how an event today will impact voters’ choices four months from now, and it is still incumbent on all of us to fight fascism and not acquiesce to doom.

Closeted, high school-aged me, listening with headphones to Dr. Ruth waiting for her to answer questions about being gay on her late-night call-in show. She said it was OK and just might be the first person I ever heard say it was. Thanks, Dr. Ruth.
#giftlink For people of my generation in New York, Dr. Ruth was a font of non-judgmental frank information on sexuality & intimacy, in all forms. She likely saved many lives with her early “safe sex” evangelism when others ignored (or cheered) the AIDS epidemic. May her memory be for a blessing.

Folks, I may have a PhD in history-including US politics history-but the last several years I’ve been working in public health as a science writer. One of my areas of focus is Aging, including Alzheimer’s and related dementias (AD/RD). I find the discourse around Biden really troubling.

This is journalistic malpractice. The Biden admin was working on Parkinson's policy.
Breaking News: A Parkinson’s expert visited the White House eight times in eight months from last summer through this spring, according to official visitor logs. The administration has said that President Biden has no signs of the disease.

I just want to save this series of tweets for posterity. Hopefully, we’ll have a chance to go back over what’s going on here when tempers have cooled.

July 4 story: This book is one of 50 snuck out of Philadelphia and hidden in the countryside west of Philadelphia as the British approached. It contains one of the first official printings (1777) of the Declaration of Independence. It looks different than you might expect. 🧵

I spend peanuts at TS every year but still, no longer. Their company statement referenced by Blue Heron is absolute trash and even winks at what “make[s] America great” as if to get on the right side of a potential future dictator.
I wrote to the Tractor Supply board today. Here is what I sent. Even if you've only ever bought one thing there, I encourage you to write, as a customer.

I didn’t watch the debate, and I honestly have no sense of loyalty to Biden. I’m sure the Dems would slot in a younger, otherwise identical candidate. I do, however, have some SERIOUS FUCKING IRE for the fact that we haven’t been seeing these pieces about Trump, who tried to overthrow an election.
Good start

An underrated possible future is that in a few months time Donald Trump loses the election and then spends the rest of his life in court and in jail for his many crimes. Like, this could definitely be how things go

This.
I think spending a couple of years existing almost entirely online and simmering in our own stress hormones while millions of people died behind iPad screens may have had long-term detrimental effects on our ability to relate sensibly to others
