The attempt to get radical leftists to engage with politics as it is lived is actually mostly a struggle to get them to not prefer a glorious suicide over a frustrated life
"you're not American why do you care about the 4th of July" mate I'm Indian, any day someone got the Brits to fuck off back to their country is a national holiday for me
i really am going to be logged off for the holiday but i would like to drop off a parting thought: publishing a monarchist anti-voting take on the fourth of july is the strongest possible indication of someone's core, true values
Things are pretty fucked up and the future is uncertain — probably the worst in my lifetime (perhaps excepting 1969 before I can remember). When it’s like that, I like to think about my grandparents and what they faced and got through with the Great Depression and WWII.

Not the most terrifying thing but perhaps the most infuriating: every single thing we said about these fascist Republican fucks has been proved out and all the people who assured us that what is happening would never happen smoothly pivoted to yes it's happening but it will be fine.
Reminder from a Pittsburgher who was at one point Mr. Rogers neighbor:
“Look for the helpers” was intended to be advice for his usual audience, children. We’re grown ups now. We’re supposed to be the helpers.
I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).
You ever have the experience of a calm coming over you, and thinking "You know what? I think things are gonna be alllll righ..."
...and then remembering, wait. No. I had a gummy about an hour ago. I feel this way because I'm on drugs.
Americans across the political spectrum are all deeply mired in “apocalypse realism”, in which it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the world not ending. This widespread imaginary just happens to motivate the people who want the world to end while depressing everyone else.
Honestly, I don't know how doomerism has survived the long arc of history. We used to grovel under kings. Slavery was the law of the land. Fascist authoritarians conquered a democracy and declared war on a continent and a people.
And, all of that was overcome. It ceased. History didn't end.
I have heard a lot of smart folks each name a different new Democratic presidential ticket, with no overlaps, which gives an idea of what such a convention would look like.
Whelp at least its obvious being online that the Democrats would have no trouble picking an obvious consensus candidate as one has so clearly materialized in the wake of the suggestion that Biden step down
it feels like the whiteness of big political media spaces right now is having a big effect on how people are thinking about the debate. eg I have seen relatively little discussion of trump's "black jobs" comment, which immediately exploded on black twitter
A huge amount of the unease and, pretty bluntly, madness of the past 8 years are really all just collaterals of what happens when the social contract ruptures. And folks have yet to come to terms with either the fact that's actually what's happened or that what tore it (in the US at least) was Trump
Word from the other replies is that pictures don't do it justice, it is a hideous monstrosity that can only be appreciated in person, and that is the essence of Cyberstruck, that your very soul has been tainted by experiencing its presence.
The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.
Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters issued this memo today requiring teachers in all schools to keep a Bible in their classroom and teach from it as a historical document. (Via KOCO 5 News)
This whole company is obviously making shit up and selling snake oil, but also it is important for everyone to understand that it is morally good to set fire to this company's headquarters
