“Is suddenly in doubt” “Has boomeranged” I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a purer example of the press depersonalizing its own role than this. Holy Christ.

Is there a sense of wonderment or have you just forgotten that newspapers publish things that aren’t Takes? (I think articles that are just observations about campaign strategy are dumb too, but I can find no “wonderment” in the article, headline, or skeet)

right. NYT leadership knows they operate in a moderate/liberal bubble, and after 2016 they decided that the only way to adjust for this is to always assume that reactionary thought is more popular than it seems to be

Every big media organization was so crossed-up by Trump winning in 2016 that they have been behaving and hiring as if Long Island-Coded Suburbo-Racist Sociopathy was on an unstoppable ascent worldwide, and interpreting everything backwards from there. It turns out most people actually hate it!

Anyway shout out to the person in the replies to the OP who for some reason thought their extensive experience with domesticated animals was in any way relevant to how you should approach a bear (fyi the actual correct way to approach a bear as a non-expert is you don’t fucking approach the bear)

So…are bears, uh, supposed to be this comfortable around people? I would not be okay with a bear being this close to me, especially not in my own backyard

I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

Now everyone--The Times and, sorry to say, MSNBC--is noting every missed syllable. The man has a stutter. I don't stutter but I am a mushmouth who speaks too fast and slurs words. I've had to overcome fear of public speaking. I have empathy for Biden. The press has empathy for no one (but Trump).

It's also not just a matter of wanting to or will, Republicans have aparatchiks willing to carry out illegal orders or lean on people to carry out those orders while biden is largely relying on non partisan career civil servants that are essentially a civic religious types

This is why it’s a gift to Trump specifically. He’s the one being prosecuted for doing bad things with his office! There is little to nothing that Biden wants to do that the fear of prosecution once out of office is holding him back from doing.
