I'm interested to see what if anything this changes foreign policy wise - especially re: the current situation with Israel and Hizballah, but my gut errs with "probably not much", especially when you remember at the end of the day the President of Iran isn't really in charge of Iran.

I know nobody actually gives a shit about hypocrisy at all but just thinking about how this guy literally shut off Starlink to Ukraine to stop them from being able to launch an attack on Russia and also runs a company that DoD is increasingly reliant on for space operations.
I think this is the first time Musk has suggested fellow Americans should be executed.

We've heard all this song and dance before about a ceasefire in Gaza and the case remains that A.) its almost entirely in Israel's hands, and they can torpedo it at any time; and B.) any ceasefire will only be temporary as their overall goal of "destroying HAMAS" has not changed at all.

No but I love when all you beautiful sickos start posting shit like "Bogroubler flips Hambarn upon Gwynyychlyyrah! A huge result!" It's like hanging out with people being poisoned by carbon monoxide. None of those places are real

Almost every year since I made a Twitter account I've made some variation of this post over there and every year it reaches a tipping point right about the same time a few hours later where it breaks containment and the freaks start coming in and I gotta mute it lmao Twitter is so predictable.
I think we could all use a bit of pick-me-up right about now, so seeing as it's July 3rd, why don't we once again reflect on one of the greatest white supremacist self-owns in military history:

The President absolutely should be yelling at Bibi. I'd be more worried about him not being capable of doing so.
Read the Times story about Biden. They say he seems more visibly exhausted and physically frail than years ago, confuses names more. No real accusation of mental problems. Includes an anecdote of Biden yelling at Netanyahu. Sources speculate his schedule is too demanding relative to his age.

There's this weird thing happening when someone says "I'm voting for Biden because I want us to still have elections long after he's dead" and people equate that with "Biden is awesome and I agree with his actions regarding Gaza"
ok but seriously nut up. nobody here loves biden. I’d rather vote for a sentient captcha machine that electrocutes my eyeballs every time I tag all the bicycles and it thinks I missed a fuckin train wheel. but that’s what we got and if you want to live in a fantasy I have no time for your ass

All I'm say for now is I'm not giving up and neither should you. But if you are giving up, get the fuck out of my way dipshit, I don't have time for you and your doomer bullshit. It's ok to be scared and sad, but if you're gonna jack off to your own despair, step the fuck aside.

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

They want your despair. Withhold it.
Things are bad but all the more reason for optimism of the will and rejection of doomerism and nihilism. Only way out is through.

Someday a lot of people will claim not to have supported any of this and you need to survive to remember that they did

Honestly, I don't know how doomerism has survived the long arc of history. We used to grovel under kings. Slavery was the law of the land. Fascist authoritarians conquered a democracy and declared war on a continent and a people. And, all of that was overcome. It ceased. History didn't end.
I really have lost my former tolerance for "we're doomed/fucked/it's all over/they've won" takes at this point, in that they're the most dangerous attitudes one could possibly have when confronted with a truly existential political threat (which we still DO have levers to address).

Americans across the political spectrum are all deeply mired in “apocalypse realism”, in which it is easier to imagine the end of the world than to imagine the world not ending. This widespread imaginary just happens to motivate the people who want the world to end while depressing everyone else.

reflecting on the immunity decision a bit, what the Court seems to be saying is that every element of the executive branch is at the President’s disposal, no matter what he wants to use it for. his motives don’t matter. the office is a weapon to be wielded however he sees fit.

an old professor, a survivor of his country's civil war, often reminded me that all activism relies upon hope, sister to faith--the evidence of things unseen. our ability to imagine and enact better futures, even when we don't have visuals, is how we endure.

let me put this another way: despair, or its new name, doomerism, asserts omniscience--that things cannot be better, that all possibilities of good are already foreclosed, that you can know this as fact. it looks like humility, but it's all ego. it is, in fact, the assumption of godhood.
I joke a lot about my capacity for despair, but there's enough Catholic discipline in my youth to remember that it is in fact a sin, one that absorbs all the best in you more comprehensively than a tar pit. I left the church ages ago, but I held onto that cable: despair is not a long-term good.
