Bucking pressure from the Biden administration, the new Labour government of the United Kingdom is expected to drop its objections to ICC arrest warrants being issued against Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant. The UK will also contemplate whether to restore funding to UNRWA in the near future.

Watch this thread of clips from Bidens WI rally (compiled by @atrupar.bsky.social) & note that Biden is not just cogent, but forceful, here. This is the sort of "evidence" that many ppl, mostly in news media, claim that they want for reassurance that they continue to ignore. x.com/atrupar/stat...

POST: To be a socialist in the 21st century is to reckon with the horrors of 20th century socialism and still feel that there's a path forward that allows the human race to outgrow capitalism. Or to give a pass to those horrors in a glib and meaningless way.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

The people I know in Arizona are working like hell to get this on the ballot, and get women out to vote for it. And my experience of Arizona was that, while evangelicalism and conservatism are big out there, "You can't fucking tell me what to do with my life" is even bigger. This will matter.

Every day proves Thaddeus Stevens right: there should've been big Nuremberg-style public trials of leading Confederates, accompanied by seizures of the assets of all pro-Confederate large landowners and businessmen, which should then have been distributed to freed slaves as compensation.
These guys are traitors to the republic just like their heroes Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee

Smarter people than myself have said it, but a second Trump presidency would look less like Franco’s Spain or Hitler’s Germany and more like “nationwide Jim Crow”. Which is not a relief.
Again, Black people are an exception here, as basically anyone who stayed in the Jim Crow South has a living memory of living under what amounted to fascism, including the “always walking on eggshells/lack of social trust/long periods of boring endurance/randomized terrifying violence”

One thing you can do from the comfort of home is write postcards to voters in swing states. Lots of ways to sign up including with Progressive Turnout Project www.turnoutpac.org/postcards/ and Third Act thirdact.org/act/write-po.... A good project to take on this summer.

The fear I wrestle with: whether Biden wins (as I suspect he will) or whether we get some unholy Trump autocracy, politics from here on out looks very different. I know we would still have politics under a dictatorship, but I don't know what they look like or how to navigate them. And that's scary.

The prospect of a second Trump administration is terrifying to me as an immigration lawyer. Mostly because of what it would mean for my clients. But also, in the back of my mind, because it would turn my only marketable job skill into wet toilet paper.
Sorry to all my lawyer friends who spent a bunch of time learning how law works in the US. I had friends who were Flash developers and things turned out alright for them after they pivoted to C# or whatever. Hopefully there's an equivalent for our national legal system

“You’re a lawyer! What does this mean, really?” Man, I don’t fucking know. In the last week an entire area of law I studied was more or less rendered entirely moot and now there’s one specific guy in the whole country who may be able to do anything he wants without recourse. This is kind of new.

a thing to remember, in all of this horror, is that these are not the actions of a political party that is confident it represents the will of the people, and who is currently out of power and enslaved to a deeply flawed avatar. the struggle is not over and they have not won

The ERA is trans rights. The ERA is Obergefell. It’s abortion access. It’s fair pay. It’s parental leave. It’s the transformation in our society and thinking that we desperately need, because so many people have given up on thinking we can do anything at all. The Equal Rights Amendment is hope.

I know I sound like a broken record, but this is why the ERA matters. It changes the standard for any decision the Court makes on gender and sex equity. It binds them to the Bostock ruling, where two of the current conservatives were in the majority. And that’s just the beginning of what it can do.
🚨🚨🚨 “The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to review a Tennessee law that bans gender transition care for people younger than 18. The case will be the first opportunity the justices have to consider the constitutionality of such restrictions, which 23 states have passed since 2021.”

Worth stating explicitly and often that justice really demanded that the liquidation of every asset of every slave owner to then be distributed to their emancipated former slaves. There shouldn't have been a single slave owner/family with a dime left to their name.
