Every summer at the Pennsylvania state fair, teams compete to create life-size erotic butter sculptures. They call it Churning Man.
Every August, typeface designers flock to the middle of the desert for a week of sex & drugs, and they erect a large wooden word with all the spacing fucked up. They call it Kerning Man

THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right: "Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."

I don’t want to generalize too much but the place I see the most hope right now is from those that have been fighting the hardest for the longest time. Extended doomerism can be a luxury not afforded to those who have the most to lose.

Thought experiment: Imagine if Obama, after claiming an election had been stolen from him and being convicted of 34 felonies, was granted immunity by SCOTUS justices who had taken undisclosed luxury trips on George Soros' dime. The fact that you can't even imagine this scenario tells you something.

And for those of us who have only known authoritarianism’s succour through supine legislatures, & a pliant judiciary, what SCOTUS decision enables in US is a familiar experience. The West talks of history’s lessons. We can speak to lived experience, negotiated daily, of absolute power’s violence.
commentary seems pointless. we are facing the construction of new kind of lawless, authoritarian-friendly governance in america, and i'm not sure what to say. it's what we do that matters.

“The obvious, logical path out of the mess President Biden created with his disastrous debate performance is for him to bow out with honor and endorse his young, vigorous and talented vice president to stand in his stead.” Hard to argue with that. Nobody in the world better qualified right now.

2nd July 1863. Battle of Gettysburg. For perhaps the only time in the entire war the Confederates seem to be winning. Dan Sickles, commander III Corps, is ordered hold on Cemetery Ridge. For reasons unknown he advances. Broken, his men begin to flee. This is the moment on which the war depends /1

When Trump demonizes immigrants as takers and “not human beings,” he’s talking about ppl like my mom. She worked for years as a domestic worker to support our family. Classes at night for a while. She’s my hero. My mom isn’t “poisoning the blood” of America. She is the American story.
I know what I’m doing in Nov. because when I vote I’m not just voting for myself. I’m voting to protect my Dreamer friends. I’m voting to protect the farmworkers feed us. I’m voting for my mom & all the loving immigrant parents who left everything behind: zacharymueller.substack.com/p/as-a-gay-a...

Trump asked: will you accept the election and say that political violence is unacceptable? Why should I have to say that? I've said it before. Pelosi was to blame for January 6.

The best way to develop your own voice is to read widely & voraciously - all the time, all forms & genres, including (especially) poetry. The best bits will stick in your writer’s ear, gradually informing & shaping your own language choices.
if u see this, quote-post with your tips for writers that no one gives anymore because they seem obvious (even though they're not)

The "increase" in neurdivergent cases probably might also have just a wee bit to do with the fact that punishing your kids until they learned how to pretend to be "normal" isn't as popular as it used to be.
