What the hell is wrong with people? Walkers don’t imply a single thing about the user’s cognitive status—OR about their age. Why should mobility issues prevent someone from being president?
IMO this is a straight-up ageist and ableist image, no?

When an article says "some scientists think" then remember this: I, a scientist, once thought I could fit a whole orange in my mouth. I could, it turns out, get it in there, but I hadn't given sufficient thought to the reverse operation.

To put this into perspective, I could not have visited the library as a first year uni student because I was 1000 miles away from my parents and didn’t turn 18 until the summer before my sophomore year

I know there's a lot of math and maximizing event scores and so on, but if I'm on the selection committee, I'm going 1-5 on the team with #6 as the alternate. 🤸‍♂️

Just got an ad that was like "tired of shuttling your kids to all their friends' houses and extracurriculars? Try Uber for Teens!" and hear me out but what if we just had good public transit instead

On that other site I was on a list called Does Not Lick 9V Batteries, and that makes me happy

I’ve been shouting about this to #Romancelandia. Project2025 folks think sex is only for procreation. I challenge you to write a romcom where the married (have to be) hero says to his tradwife, “Mother,” because that’s her name now, “it’s time for our seventh child.” & then we cut to black.
and even if someone thinks "well I don't like/look at porn so why should it be a priority for me?" it's important to remember that when christofascists say "porn" they also mean age-appropriate comprehensive sex education, media with queer/trans people in it, and picture books about gay penguins.

Books with simple language can be extremely difficult, and books with difficult language can be quite simple. This isn't changing the level of difficulty, it's eliminating the art of storytelling.
I can’t think of a clever caption for this. It just breaks my fucking heart.

I certainly hope they got consent from the authors/estate holders for this bowdlerization, or that they have confined themselves to out-of-copyright works.

folks gonna miss this from just the headline, but someone should point it out: the lack of live fact-checking by the moderators *was part of the agreement* by the campaigns. It's not just that CNN /didn't/ live fact check it. It's that they /weren't allowed to/.
Earlier this week, CNN's political director David Chalian said a debate “is not the ideal venue for a live fact-checking exercise." Moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash stuck to that model Thursday night, despite multiple falsehoods claimed during the debate.

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

RIP: Kinky Friedman’s oddball magnetism and “fearless Texas chutzpah,” as his friend Taj Mahal once described it, in both his writings, stump speeches, songs, and interviews, cemented him as a media darling

Just a reminder of what Starmer thinks "isn't nice enough". Apparently Tennant should be so much more polite about someone who wants to legislate someone from his family and people like them from public life.
Oh fuck off you spineless coward.

The final SCOTUS decision today is Snyder v. US. Kavanaugh has the court's 6-3 decision on ideological grounds, holding that the Section 666 bribery statute does not apply to "gratuities" given for public officials' *past* acts. Jackson writes the liberals' dissent.

The AI trend of “we took this art and expanded it beyond the artist’s intent because *more* of a thing means better” - showing what’s “out of frame” in a shot from a movie, or turning a six word short story into a novella - speaks to what art actually is: knowing what isn’t necessary.
Was listening to a Sixty Minutes segment on AI. The host made it do a short story based on "for sale, baby shoes, never worn" and could not shut up about how good the result was even though it was pure soulless drivel. Think a big key to this racket persisting is not knowing what real writing is.

Netflix was roundly mocked for releasing their ridiculous shark film as 'Under Paris' instead of the obvious Shark de Triomphe. So they've just released these alternate posters, which I love. #UnderParis

In June 2023, there were at least a couple of days where the 24-hour average temp for the entire state of Texas was 90F/32C degrees. In South Central Texas, it was over 100F/38C. It's never not hot here in the summer.
I don’t care what the temperature reaches as long as it’s not hot in the morning or after dark. Whatever the heat is up to during business hours is none of my concern.

If you're gen x or millennial, odds are you have known some people online for *decades*. Across multiple now-dead forums, across vast gulfs of time in internet years. You've probably got a friend group that outlived multiple sites.
