Today was great. We fed so many people today in Tampa, connected with families and are working to build more community run gardens in people's spaces. The city isn't going to help its people - the people will help themselves!

That any elected officials participated in J6 is disturbing. That some of those folks also have prior records is bonkers. This guy's on a school board & has a been arrested for drunken driving & other crimes. He says he won't step down. That level of cognitive dissonace screams evangelical

Remember how the "retail theft crime wave" disappeared as soon as companies had to do their annual reports? That's because it's illegal to lie to shareholders. AI is booming (if you're a pleb) but if you have money - Goldman Sachs will be honest with you instead web.archive.org/web/20240629...

The “it is inevitable” discourse is designed to disempower actual pushback and demoralize voters to turn away or give up on democratic processes and voting. As much as it may seem like things have fully collapsed. Winning the election keeps options on the table that give us actual power to stop this

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

Republicans are single handedly making whole lines of polisci & law study irrelevant, like the fall of USSR did to Soviet studies.
In light of I'm retiring my Constitutional Interpretation undergrad class. Of course it was front loaded w/ polisci research demonstrating the fed courts are political & the policy effects of rulings. I'd rather spend the rest of my career teaching another class 1/

Political education is so necessary for activism! The architects of project 2025 are out there bragging about it because they want their base mobilized. A response might emphasize the importance of, say, state or doj not being staffed by Jan 6 attendees
If Democrats feel that this is a core threat, then what's the political education plan? Are they turning the document into an audiobook? Are they hosting Project 2025 teach ins? Are they creating a Democratic Project 2025? Like what's actually happening in reality?

Political education is core to activism, which is why the Democrats avoid it like the plague. They do not support or endorse activism - just like the Republicans, they find it to be an objectionable disruption to an orderly status quo, which is why they team up to crush it when they can.

It's important to note that this single-post analysis above is entirely consistent with a much more comprehensive analysis by @ketanjoshi.co showing that changes in the X algorithm and moderation policies that began in Oct 2022 have massively favoured trolls and penalized climate scientists. See:
Musk is remaking Twitter into a climate denier sanctuaryketanjoshi.co I got some data that analyses how climate deniers have changed their audience size, relative to pro-climate accounts, on Musk's Twitter. It's....not good.

Yesterday, I shared this same Canada Day thread on Bluesky, Threads, and X. Here's what I found. 🧵
“Canada is such a northern country, don’t we want a little global warming?” I often hear. In a nutshell, NO. We’re warming 2x faster than the rest of the world, driving extreme heat, flood, and sea level rise we are not prepared for. The wildfire season started in Feb this year. Feb! #canadaday

This is increasingly my experience on Twitter/X as well, that replies are just rubbish and there's very little scope for discovery/learning/asking questions. Still one of the saddest outcomes about how I've spent my time over the last decade!
Since I had such a large sample (nearly a hundred), I analyzed X comments by category. 47% said climate wasn't changing, I was lying, ignorant, or not really a scientist 15% said I was in it for the $ 14% were insults Content warning: Please don't read the fine print if you're sensitive.

Btw, I specifically complained to Rep Cardenas’s office that while AOC had already called for an impeachment, he hadn’t even commented on twitter yet. His tweet (a pithy comment on a quote-post of the LAT story) went up an hour later.

Honestly still in shock that the most crooked American President in history said "I need immunity" and the GOP Supreme Court said "well, it's nowhere in the constitution, but sure, why not? Whats the worst that could happen?"
Avatar
The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

I hate this court so much and even I am astonished by this case. It writes new provisions into Art 2 of the constitution that were unnecessary to decide the case at hand and that cannot be repealed by legislative action or even undone without a new case of presidential law breaking before the court

The only two permutations of this that work are: 1) Biden stays in 2) Biden steps aside for Harris but remains in office Everything other permutation of this idea is either a fantasy or propaganda whose discussion is designed to get the Dems to lose the election and usher Trump into power.

Anyway, I was right that the media (led by the NYT) is going with "but his debate performance" to tank Biden's chances. They've been looking for a "but her emails" attack on him for months and nothing else has stuck This furor reminds me of their freakout when he withdrew troops from Afghanistan
I don't know if I'd consider someone who would leak such a sensitive conversation (if it happened the way this person said it did) to the NYT to be an ally of President Biden
