the only thing i know for sure is that if you'd asked me a month ago if it's a good idea to replace your presumptive nominee a few weeks before the conventions while he's down 0-2 points in the polls, either for his vp or a 2nd rushed primary, i would've said no and that you're nuts for asking

I don't love Biden. I really don't. But it is just fucking ridiculous to have weathered YEARS of people telling me to stop criticizing him because it will suppress the vote, only to have people with way more power than me do *this.*

bad luck for biden to run in an electoral cycle where "are you old" is the most important issue instead of in one of the cycles where email security procedures or accuracy of vietnam war medal citations was the most important issue in the country.

The thing that's obvious to everyone and that nobody can actually write in the press is that the American (and yes, I'm sure elsewhere too) right wing is led by bad people and the object is to make more people extremely bad in basically every respect. It's anti-society

you either get serious about tackling media as a problem as president and as a legislative body, going after monopolies and taking an IRS shaped hammer to white collar crime in this space, or you do some basic fucking driving of news cycles, or ideally, you do both. but "mope about it"? jesus.

co-sign but i will add: i don't know the best path but i do know the worst path, and that's replacing him with anyone other than kamala, via any process whatsoever.
I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.

Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million. Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

Three things that are true: 1) I did not support Biden in the 2020 primary 2) I thought Biden looked like a reanimated corpse at the debate 3) I have every confidence that he is fully capable of being President, and the New York Times and other outlets are fucking him to goose readership
I am just Some Guy but it definitely has compelled me to get way more vocally supportive of Biden in defense, just because of how obvious it is that this is ratfuckery from the bad guys and their painfully stupid patsies in the press

there's a certain irony that liberals who have spent four years yelling at leftists who criticize Biden at all for any reason have now, in one week, done more damage to Biden's candidacy than all those leftists combined
I think the freakout has been absurd and overblown and far more damaging than the debate itself, which would have been survivable if everyone had been willing to circle the wagons and push back on it I am, from a purely pragmatic standpoint, extremely concerned that the damage cannot be overcome

this is the thing, all of this “we need confirmation!” is entirely subjective. we have, on one hand, anonymous sources with vague “close to the campaign” or “close to lawmakers” descriptions from political hacks, and then we have actual fucking politicians saying everything’s fun, calm the fuck down
Roy Cooper has now met with Biden twice in five days and there’s no hint of him being discouraged despite a pretty distinct drumbeat of “goddamnit Cal” from him in October 2020

Every day proves Thaddeus Stevens right: there should've been big Nuremberg-style public trials of leading Confederates, accompanied by seizures of the assets of all pro-Confederate large landowners and businessmen, which should then have been distributed to freed slaves as compensation.
These guys are traitors to the republic just like their heroes Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee

Honestly still in shock that the most crooked American President in history said "I need immunity" and the GOP Supreme Court said "well, it's nowhere in the constitution, but sure, why not? Whats the worst that could happen?"

People have let themselves believe they in particular would be fine as long as they live in the right states, where everyone votes the right way, and practices just the right type of politics.

Discworld QOTD, from Feet of Clay “People said that there was one law for the rich and one law for the poor, but it wasn't true. There was no law for those who made the law, and no law for the incorrigibly lawless.”
Discworld QOTD, from Maskerade “Nanny Ogg was basically a law-abiding person when she had no reason to break the law, and therefore had that kind of person’s attitude to law-enforcement officers, which was one of deep and permanent distrust.”

PSA: if you're talking about doing actual political violence on social media in public, you are a dangerously ignorant twerp who lacks the situational awareness required to do anything useful for anyone.

Just at the most basic level it is really unhealthy to have to thought about Donald Trump as much as everyone in America has over the last nine or so years. Spending a decade of my life thinking about a super boring, super shitty crook and all the bad stuff he's doing or might do. It's embarrassing.

It is enormously frustrating to know, as an evolutionary biologist with experience from the trenches of the creationist wars on science, that nobody on Biden’s team nor CNN’s seem to be aware of the Gish Gallop, 30y after Eugenie Scott described it and years of Trump deploying it!

Noticed this at big chain stores the last couple times I was in NYC. Both times, in different parts of the city, I just walked a few blocks to a non-chain drugstore where nothing was locked down. Either the indie stores are taking massive losses, or this isn’t really about theft.
My local CVS has locked all products behind glass as, I guess, an anti-theft measure. They’ve also severely understaffed the store. So if you want to buy anything, you have to stand in the aisle for 15 minutes, repeatedly pressing an “assistance needed” button. Masterful gambit, CVS. No notes.

I really have moved past dunking on assholes I just think there’s been a terrifying right-wing push to force women to have babies when they might not want to so this really does need to be pointed out.
Area op-ed columnist who thinks Taylor Swift is a bad role model because she’s 34 and unmarried with no kids also thinks Kevin Spacey deserves another chance:

The Democratic Party’s reaction to their candidate having a bad debate substantially outpaces the Republican Party’s reaction to their candidate being convicted of multiple felonies, held liable for rape, and owing judgments in the hundreds of millions for defamation and fraud.

Why don’t you skip the party altogether? Enjoy Warsaw; see if you feel the same way on Monday.
I’m in Warsaw talking about the future of the European economy, so I’m late to this party. But I’ll have a blog post up soon very reluctantly making the case for Biden — the best president of my adult life — to step aside in favor of Harris.

Have a (very possibly unnecessary!) freakout about the optics if you want, but if you're saying that Biden is unfit to be president because he has a stutter that's gross and you should feel bad
