Listened to an audiobook I liked so much I want to buy a physical copy, but the reason I got it as an audiobook in the first place is that there's no more room on my shelves. A real O Henry predicament!!!!

Google’s emissions are up 48% in 5 years. Microsoft’s are up 30% since 2020. Those soaring figures are being driven by mass investments in data centers to power AI tools. Generative AI is a climate disaster and data center expansion must be stopped.

Given the state of physical retail, can Macy's really afford to be holding all these big spectacle events every year?

Regretting canceling my subscription to the New York Times on a morning when they’re bringing me an oped from Bill Maher AND an interview with Steve Bannon. What a tantalizing feast for the mind, sadly beyond my reach now

Oh my god this is the worst of all possible worlds, we have to live through the 2028 Democratic primary while the 2024 general is still 6 months away.

I think the reason Philip K Dick is still the predominant SF writer of the last century is, he was the only one who foresaw a future where everything would be boring, inconvenient and dehumanising, and where the only way you can win is to somehow refuse to give up your humanity.

Once again asking the hard-hitting questions; What is a good shared grocery app for a blended family (iPhone user dating an Android user)?

Shein and Temu are cutting into Amazon’s business, so now the ecommerce giant is planning to respond with a discount section of its own.
It’s another stage in retail’s race to the bottom on labor abuses and environmental harm — and it needs to be stopped before it’s too late.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

"The cloud" was such an incredible marketing move. Just fully leaning into the rhetoric that cloud computing is this magical thing that happens up in the sky and doesn't have impact on our environment or the sustainability of our labor. It's depressing how well that rhetoric worked.

Incredible line from MTA board member Norman Brown (a former Long Island Rail Road machinist and union delegate, later transportation policy scholar) from a longer pro-congestion-pricing retort at the board meeting: “If you live in the car, you think of the windshield as the end of your universe.”

If Biden loses in Nov, well, that’s a disaster for everybody, but not especially for Joe Biden, he’ll be okay (unless revenge indictments start flying) but if Trump loses, that’s 100% absolutely a massive catastrophic personal tragedy for him, and I really hope you all join me in making that happen
An underrated possible future is that in a few months time Donald Trump loses the election and then spends the rest of his life in court and in jail for his many crimes. Like, this could definitely be how things go
