Remember the old platform shooters when you got to the final boss and you could tell where the vulnerable spot was because it would start flashing when hit? Project 2025 is Trump's vulnerable spot. Hit it every day from now to November.

Electric vehicles can save lives by polluting the climate less than fossil-fueled vehicles in most places. Yet EVs are much heavier and accelerate faster, so are more dangerous in crashes. @costasamaras.bsky.social argues that increased car-crash deaths could be on par with lives saved via climate.

the other thing is that people have no sense of how much space cars and so they imagine that a road full of cars must be a lot of people when it very often is not. a well-used bike lane transports like twice as many people during a given time as does a road
I've become convinced that one of the biggest obstacles to better road design in commercial areas is well-off business owners who drive their BMW to work every day and find it impossible to imagine a customer who uses any other mode of conveyance to arrive at the shop.

Watching the British election returns I feel compelled to point out that the 650 person House of Commons represents 67 million people and the 435 person House of Representatives in the United States represents 333 million. Replace the Permanent Apportionment Act of 1929. We deserve representation.

Had dinner with an attorney friend of mine last night who told me that when the immunity decision was announced, he threw his constitutional law book in the trash. After reading this brilliant indictment of the Trump/Roberts court by @ryanlcooper.com, I understand why prospect.org/justice/2024...

oh, you might say, the president can’t issue corrupt pardons. ah. but john roberts says that not only can he issue corrupt pardons, but if he tells his staff they are corrupt in the course of issuing them, that evidence is inadmissible in the event that you could somehow prosecute the corruption
If the president tells federal workers to illegally imprison me and hands them all presidential pardons, they're all safe from prosecution but in theory maybe a judge can get me out eventually. Somehow. If I can even talk to a lawyer. But if the president instead tells federal workers to kill me...

CHIEF JUSTICE V. THE WOMEN OF THE UNITED STATES The MAGA majority wants to deliver Trump a government conscripted in an “effort to belittle and degrade women,” and GOP men would like women to stop being so “hysterical” about it, writes Dahlia Lithwick.

i think akhil amar reed captures something very important, which is that the roberts court rewrote article ii, which explicitly states that a president can be held criminally liable after impeachment (and which has long been understood to mean that he can be held liable after leaving office)
Something Has Gone Deeply Wrong at the Supreme Courtwww.theatlantic.com Jurists who preach fidelity to the Constitution are making decisions that flatly contradict our founding document’s text and ideals.

When I say the Supreme Court went beyond law, I don’t mean that I disagree with their interpretation of any legal text. I mean their immunity grant isn’t based in any. The Constitution does not address it either way. They invented new powers from nothing.
The Roberts Court Boosts Trump’s Attack on Constitutional Democracywww.arcdigital.media The overreaching, absurd, un-American decision granting ex-presidents a large degree of immunity is an exercise in power, not law

Under today’s immunity decision, Biden could order AG Garland to immediately prosecute Thomas and Alito for corruption and insurrection. (Official act). If Garland refuses, Biden can fire him and replace him with someone who will. (Official act) I would suggest Elie Mystal.

Mask bans are evil and dystopian and I am appalled that they’re even being proposed. Wearing masks to protect your health and the health of others needs to be recognized as a right for all and an absolutely essential protection for those who would otherwise be unable to participate in society
