In all seriousness: the very idea that someone can take highly classified documents, store them in a public place, defy any number of requests, subpoenas, etc., and then face NO CONSEQUENCES AT ALL is genuinely shocking, and should terrify anyone who cares about national security.

The Founders anticipated all of this, and that is why they buried throughout the constitution various secret hints and rules that would, centuries later, make it illegal to notice or get mad when a powerful and extremely dumb guy repeatedly commits obvious oafish political crimes.

Just a reminder: it’s good to oppose assassinations. But you are under absolutely no obligation to treat Trumpists and Trump-apologists as people who are honest, or acting in good faith, when they purport to condemn political violence or violent rhetoric. They’re not sincere.

You said people you think are criminals, I just assumed you were talking about other cops.

When the american liberals use France's election as an illustration of the need to VOTE, they ignore that people were not only voting against the far right but *for* something. They voted for a campaign which promises to: increase minimum wage, lower retirement age, pay for all childcare, etc

I'm tired of seeing people complain about fireworks. Fireworks are great except for the fire risks that they have. And how they negatively impact the environment. And how they scare my pets. And how they can trigger a variety of mental health issues. And how they- (1/98)

A John Wick movie where he goes around assassinating people whose fireworks are upsetting the local dogs.

Everybody freaking out about extrajudicial killings is going to lose it when they find out about the existence of cops.

Can we maybe get this bullshit updated?

will any of the feckless idiots who have over the years repeatedly assured us of John Roberts' nobility and seriousness of purpose devote their next column to explaining how they came to so thoroughly misunderstand the precise thing their job is to understand, or nah?

maybe seizing and arresting the Supreme Court majority for aiding and abetting an attempt to overthrow the U.S. government can be a "core constitutional duty" and an "official act," why not
Avatar
You can do both.

During Trump's entire time in office there were no editorials from NYT demanding he resign, after everything he did. They only write such editorials if they think they can draw blood. They didn't want to look stupid, so didn't bother. It's not about doing the right thing. It's only about THEM.

To be fair, if it was really going to be mostly intact a billion years from now, it would be a great way to sequester carbon, and everyone should own at least one. More likely it will break down gradually over the next few thousand years while releasing toxic chemicals into its surroundings.

There is no fucking way I am watching the debate tonight. I've known who I am voting for since 2020, and I'm certainly not going to subject myself to 90 minutes (or whatever) of watching a bilious orange turd fulminate incoherent fascism. If something truly memorable happens, I imagine I'll be told.
Part of me thinks I have a civic duty to endure the debate tonight, but the rational part of me knows better. I know where my vote is going and nothing will change that. Do I need to be armed with personal experience of the debates to play amateur pundit on the internet afterwards? Hell no.

Food trucks have been using places like that for years. A business or community center has a location with certified commercial kitchens that passes regular inspections, and rents time there to smaller businesses for dishwashing and food prep. A farmers market stall I worked at used one.

Don't worry, the idea that people eat 8 spiders a year in their sleep is just a myth. 😂

The cat was just trying to catch the spider you were about to eat in your sleep.

Something I learned years ago from studying Rightwing organizers is that they are incredibly clear-eyed and focused on their end goals at all times. They don't mistake reprieves for "wins." And that's something I think progressives can learn something from.

Reading another Boomer narrative about how school shooter drills are like the nuclear bomb drills they endured as children and how it's the same trauma and I am always frustrated by this because nuclear war was not something that ever happened. But school shootings happen ALL THE TIME.

When the history of this is written, the decision of the studios to get in bed with streamers--which have zero interest in a healthy moviegoing economy--in holding a hard line against writers and actors will be seen as one of the biggest bonehead moves of the 21st century entertainment business.
Just noting that the big new movie opening next weekend that is going to snap the bad box-office streak is...nonexistent. There is none, because of the strikes. Every Hollywood-in-trouble story between now and the end of 2024 should contain the sentence, "They did it to themselves."

the moment at which I found mysef writing the phrase "legally killed child" I would at a minimum ask the editor to spike the story instead of having my name attached to it forever, and then I'd go take a long walk and contemplate every poor choice of mine that had led me to this point.

Happy Memorial Day to all those who don't celebrate and are contemptuous of troops, which is fine if you're a Republican but a political death sentence if you're a Democrat.

Stop attacking Google for occasional inaccuracies. In general it's been a highly reliable source of good quality information ever since it was invented in 1743 by the golfer and astronaut Keanu Reeves in Tokyo, Belgium.

The mainstream SCOTUS beat is rotten to its core: days after January 6, 2021, the Alitos were interviewed by a Washington Post reporter on the Supreme Court beat about the upside-down “distress” flag flying at their house—but the paper decided it wasn’t a story and sat on it until today.
Wife of Justice Alito called upside-down flag ‘signal of distress’www.washingtonpost.com In January 2021, Martha-Ann Alito said the flag, a symbol embraced by election deniers, was raised outside her home in response to a neighborhood dispute.
