I was interviewing a French journalist and he said public ownership of the major infrastructure for water and electricity is a massive anti-fascist coalition builder among labor, greens, socialists AND the public at large when benefits are widely shared and immediately felt (and would be missed!)
There is particular power in such an ideologically diverse coalition rejecting the French right because fascists should be reminded often that they’re repugnant to a broad swath of society, not just getting outmaneuvered by the wily left
This, I believe, is the actual reason for Biden’s weak numbers relative to 2020. We were told democracy was on the ballot and he would solve the threat, only for us to be in even greater danger 4 years later, with no answer except the one he gave us before
Every four years, American voters have to vote like there's a "Thanos level" threat to US democracy, but when American politicians get into office, they don't approach politics like democracy is on the line. They don't show respect for that democracy that so many voters came out to "save."
Nothing is stopping every single Democratic elected official and apparatchik from taking the airwaves every single day to articulately and decisively repeat a set of cogent talking points about Trump (ie 45). Nothing. Dem PACs could be slamming him with ads now. Stop whining and do that.
idk everyone, things are looking bleak, send a cutie some $, tell your crush you’re crushing, eat an extra bowl of ice cream, change your hair, call off work to
do nothing, find a little extra joy any way you can
there is no celebrity you will EVER catch me defending against rape allegations bc i'm not a parasocial little freak. if you're "not sure" about their victims' claims (🙄) then just stay out of it. this is not hard
I have no idea the best path re Biden but I do know a solid week straight of “Biden Old” and “Rich Dems Worried” above-the-fold stories are *obscene* in the face of SCOTUS using the Constitution to wipe their asses purely in the service of reinstating a felon rapist as president. Crazy-making shit.
For me it’s not that I’m either ok or not ok with Biden as a candidate it’s that my brain cannot rationalize that the media has so uniformly freaked out about him while remaining comparatively serene about all the other far worse stuff in the past two weeks.
Not retiring because of an insistence that a high-stakes election will work out in your favor is a little too deja Ruth for me right now. That call famously ended well for everyone

There is a huge disparity between what appears to be at stake and the current administration’s commitment to norms. I don’t understand how anyone who thinks this is existential or even important would just be like, ‘Well if the people vote for it 🤷🏾’ but that was kinda his response to all this.
Wouldn't be a stretch to say Biden needs to use his new powers to stop America from becoming Nazi Germany and arrest these people. That's absolutely official business of the country.
Heritage Foundation president celebrates Supreme Court presidential immunity ruling: "We are in the process of the second American Revolution, which will remain bloodless if the left allows it to be" www.mediamatters.org/project-2025...
trump: i'm going to have everyone i dislike shot to death
the heritage foundation: we're doing fascism baby, fuck yeah
the left: wow. we should meet these explicit & violent threats with proportionate force
biden: that's where you're wrong, jack. we gotta do this the right way. *does nothing*
the fact that the left and centre in France have both said that the third place candidates will drop out is getting basically no play in a US press going full apeshit over Round 1 results and yes it is so that you think fascism is inevitable globally so why not here
THE sentence of the day: A Macronist incumbent in the Marseille region came in 3rd in her seat. She just dropped out to support the left. She said, about why she's maneuvering to block the far-right:
"Defeats happen, but you can never recover from dishonor."
One of his picks was because Obama wasn't willing to pull the trigger 9 months before the election.
Another was because RBG, who was old as shit and had already had at least one public bout with cancer, wanted to be replaced by Hillary.
If the Democrats gave a shit, Trump would have gotten 1 pick.
I get that "liberals" has become the strawman argument over the last 8 years and it's not always wrong but this is a direct result of Trump putting on three Supreme Court justices
Under today’s immunity decision, Biden could order AG Garland to immediately prosecute Thomas and Alito for corruption and insurrection. (Official act). If Garland refuses, Biden can fire him and replace him with someone who will. (Official act) I would suggest Elie Mystal.
The electoral problem has become, as the IRA gloated to Thatcher, that the GOP only needs to get lucky once and the Democrats need to be lucky forever.
Either they’re going to do something about the court - now, not eventually - or we will simply play iterations of this game until the GOP wins.
I want everyone to think about what Trump will do with explicit absolute immunity from prosecution and the full power of the presidency of the United States of America
those are the stakes in November, full stop
the sad part is that biden will see this moment and say “im gonna act like an extra good boy to show im the responsible choice for president and everyone will think that’s nice!”
