Folks who do not want to see Donald Trump reelected, there are two (broad) things to talk about: policy accomplishments in the last 3.5 years, and Project 2025. Hammer it hammer it hammer it.

one of the most cowardly arguments i keep seeing from columnists is that nothing breaks through with trump supporters, so it’s a waste of time reporting on what he believes. this should be seen as a critically damning failure on behalf of the fourth estate. this means you failed. it’s not a pass.

Man, if it turns out that the right winger telling NY Times readers that they should follow his example and not vote did in fact vote in the last two elections, the Times should add this to the piece. Better than a retraction, since it illustrates a willful hypocrisy.
He voted in both 2020 and 2022.

just watched 74 people speaking at least a dozen different languages become american citizens in a ceremony at monticello, where the speakers were themselves children of immigrants. inspiring stuff and a vivid illustration of what reactionaries want to snuff out
At this point it’s hard to draw any conclusion other than: the NYT actively wants Trump to win, and is affirmatively attempting to influence the election in that direction.
Imagine for one second if the NYT marshaled its massive influence towards voter registration, towards supporting voting rights groups, towards encouraging people to vote and fighting people who try to stop people from voting. Imagine if the NYT actually championed participatory democracy.

very much the words of a man who has never once worried, not for a moment, that he would be outside the law
More anti-democratic thoughts from 2018 the NYT allowed this writer to exclude from his current piece. Delivered with an air of detached irony, as if he miiight be joking or exaggerating. But is he?

if you did not know that the president now has unlimited authority to order the ATF or DHS or the FBI to execute your best friend for any reason and can then order the DOJ not to prosecute then, you can blame every fucking columnist who has written a piece about biden’s age since monday
SCOTUS enabled an imperial presidency that is indistinguishable from a kingship and did so in a way that, if he wins, *will not be undone without buckets of fucking blood* in our lifetime. you’re not hearing about that, but you should, and you should be fucking murderously angry that you aren’t.

Of course it's being coordinated. That's what the Federalist Society *is*. It's a conspiracy against Americans' freedom, self governance and the rule of law and it's winning bsky.app/profile/debt...
It beggars belief that this is not all being coordinated in some way.

The Supreme Court’s ruling putting presidents above the law must be understood not simply as a grant of immunity for past crimes, but an enthusiastic endorsement of those he will commit if given the chance. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

the Gang of Six is a political body and their decisions - both in timing and content - are designed to give maximal electoral advantage to Republicans.
As @joshchafetz.bsky.social says, this is a massive election year gift to the Republican Party. Instead of the consequences of right-wing extremism being fully on display, the story will be a "muddled legal landscape" with the suggestion that federal law can save us from red state legislatures.

The Supreme Court's most radical move in the past two decades has been to assume power that was historically wielded by other branches and to place absurdly particular limits on the way those branches exercise the power left to them to the extent that the Court effectively takes that power, too
Sotomayor, for the liberals, on the decision that the SEC (and presumably other agencies) can't levy civil penalties on lawbreakers without a jury trial: "Congress had no reason to anticipate the chaos today's majority would unleash after all these years." www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23p...

Congestion pricing *would not have been an issue* by August. Hochul's fuckup is so massive that she's guaranteed it will be an issue through November. Flipping the switch on June 30th might be the only way to lessen the damage, but even that might not be enough.

Here's what NYC is losing because Hochul killed congestion pricing. Look at all those ADA accessibility upgrades!
There’s a good lesson to learn here about also calling your reps for the programs you like instead of just the ones you don’t like, but now’s not the time for that. Hochul’s phone lines opened five minutes ago and it’s time to call again. (518) 474-8390 is the number to let her know this sucks.

My major non-joking response to the verdict is that every time we say that random citizens are “peers” of the holder of the highest, most powerful federal office, I consider it a world-changing act that justifies the importance and greatness of the American democratic experiment.

The potential ramifications of this in post-Roe America can't be overstated. This means law enforcement in a red state where abortion is illegal could get access to a woman's location data and weaponize it against her if she sought out-of-state abortion care.
Here's a quick rundown of how each automaker handles customer location data requests:

A very funny cliche in the "kids have no attention span/discourse has been dumbed down" genre is the complaint that people only read headlines now, like in the era of print newspapers everyone was reading all the full articles front to back instead of mostly glancing at the headlines.

This whole thing is an idea that a 15 year old posts to the worst subreddit you’ve ever seen after a jock makes fun of his new gizmo, but backed by a bunch of other nerds with too much money. President Biden please create a swirly tax to drain their money so they can’t be this delusional.
