July 4th is very rough on my dog (he is a royalist and considers George Washington a traitor)

It was disgusting and the mask if off about "Infinite and Swift punishments for the working classes - Infinite leniency for the Oligarchy" policy choices.
One thing about the Trump immunity ruling that was really galling to me... this is same SC who rushed to make sure states could complete *executions* while Trump was still in office. No consideration. Then took ages to carefully craft hurdles to Trump being held accountable for crimes we WATCHED.

AP story waits until paragraph 16 to mention police & prosecutors are accused of conspiring to protect the cop who's apparently the real killer, until then making him seem like a lone wolf
Just a jaw-dropper from the state whose attorney general is currently trying to execute an innocent man. innocenceproject.org/missouri-cir...

Today, the federal government put itself on the right side of history by seeking, for the 1st time, to establish the precedent that every worker in America has the right to shade, water & rest while working in temps that could kill them. -UFW President Teresa Romero www.politico.com/news/2024/07...

The story is always the same: major tech companies tell us they care about the environment to silence criticism, then never actually follow through. Google’s emissions are up ~50% in 5 years, following similar news Microsoft is also blowing past its climate commitments.

Yep. One of the biggest blind spots people have is assuming that underneath, others share the same basic values as them. They have trouble imagining an ideology that is completely misaligned with theirs.

Things are going very well when we've reached the "Don't worry, the military won't obey orders to kill civilians" stage of democratic backsliding. It's the sweet spot, where good things happen. Right where we want to be.

Apparently the only thing a President is not allowed to kill is student loans

SCOTUS has ruled that presidents are essentially monarchs who can commit crimes, bribery is legal, federal regulatory agencies have no authority to keep us safe, and homeless people can be punished for being homeless. Is it any wonder why public approval of this court is so low?

This is the truest realization and the only way out of it is "Every Decison by a Federalist Society judge is without merit and won't be enforced. We will not collaborate with the FedSoc criminal conspiracy?"
Pretty clear that the Federalist Society project to take over the courts for the far right is the most successful and consequential political effort in history. Only took them a few decades. Meanwhile, Dems are like "Let's not be hasty, blue slips serve an important function in preserving comity."

Man, anyone remember when that New York Businessman ran against an incumbent Democrat both by promising to eliminate many (popular) Government programs and describing the poor health of current president? Anyone remember that? Anyways, that's how Thomas E. Dewey beat a sickly FDR in '44.

Finally, a win for the good guys this week.
BREAKING -- New York Public Library for the win! After a massive public backlash, NYC's libraries are getting their funding back -- and will be open on Sundays again. Take a bow, folks -- WE did this.

I don't want some egghead bureaucrat telling me whether there's poison in the water I drink. Ideally I'd want that decided by a 29yo judge who went to a "biblical law school" and does not believe dinosaurs existed, and then to have that decision reaffirmed six years later by the Supreme Court.

you know how we’ve all been complaining about “terrible policy by corrupt, unaccountable wizards in robes”? this now applies that, on steroids, to every regulation enacted by every agency one of the biggest judicial powers grabs since marbury v madison itself

"How did we end up with two old guys". Well, 52% of registered voters are over the age of 50 and older people are much more likely to actually vote in elections.

Axelrod on CNN is somehow worse than any debater tonight. He just dismissed "the policy stuff" and jumped right back to horse race.

people find it so hard to believe that stormtroopers from Star Wars have terrible aim probably because bad equipment it's 2024 on earth and we have two of the most valuable companies in the history of the world: one of them is making airplanes that crash, the other makes trucks that can't get wet

If you actually read the two cases putting preliminary injunctions on pieces of Biden's income-driven repayment program, as I did, you find they are contradictory, inconsistent with 30 years of IDR in practice, and totally unworkable:
Student Loan Rulings Highlight Unaccountable Judicial Power—Againprospect.org Two judges this week invalidated part of a program that’s been in place for 30 years. The rulings contradict each other and seem unworkable in practice.

I've learned that conservation through suffering does not happen. Save watts by taking a cold shower? A Bitcoin miner will use them. Save fuel by biking to work in July? Cool - more diesel fuel for a yacht. Keep off AC until you heat stroke. AI stealing art will use that power.
