I said to someone else the other day, this is the most insane spasm of cowardice I have seen from Democrats in my lifetime and I lived through the Reagan years. It really is like a very specific group of people had a mass hysteria event or ate moldy wheat or got a bad batch of LSD.

Just at the most basic level it is really unhealthy to have to thought about Donald Trump as much as everyone in America has over the last nine or so years. Spending a decade of my life thinking about a super boring, super shitty crook and all the bad stuff he's doing or might do. It's embarrassing.

YES THAT WORKED SO WELL AND DID NOT AT ALL THROW THE PARTY INTO A DIVISIVE NOMINATION CONTEST AND LOST ELECTION THAT WOULD HAUNT IT FOR THE NEXT HALF CENTURY

There is no world in which demanding Kamala Harris stand aside is not viewed as a racist usurpation. It is kind of incredible to me how many refuse to see the insult that would be. There is no world in which that does not set fire to the Democratic coalition.
National pundits are doing their level best to manifest a world in which Kamala Harris does not exist
If Biden steps down, that is real "Dems in disarray" moment that will penetrate down to the most disconnected voter imaginable. It could get overwhelmed by other factors, but is clearly a negative signal about Dem leadership and most of the response I've seen about what to do about it is "Pfft."

anyway I can’t think of any way that unceremoniously ejecting the incumbent Dem president from the ticket, four months before the election, with no agreement on a successor, no process to pick one, and most people pushing the idea assuming it WON’T be the vice presidents, could possibly backfire

Thoroughly enjoying one of my favourites, Mr David Tennant, being extremely relaxed about saying things which are true.

Not over. As someone alive before Chevron precedent, before legal abortion, before many things being flipped back in time existed, I can say you can fight this war&win it. Again. &this time, people have sunk costs&reaped benefits where before it was theoretical. They will feel&resent the loss.
The war is over. The bad guys won.

as much as i think that debate was bad for biden i also find myself contemptuous of the assorted libs having a full blown panic attack

What I wanted to hear Biden say: “You disgust me sir. You are a liar, a cheat, a narcissist. It sickens me to share the stage with a man like you. But I am here because I am here to to ask the American people, the people who love democracy, the people who truly love this country, to stop you.”

This election is about values, not policies. It was *always* about values and not policies. This was obvious to anyone with half a brain-cell from the first day that Trump announced he'd be running again. Every single comms person who does not get that should be given their severance and a reference

Reminder: every lawyer you know personally—your cousin, your neighbor, whatever—has more experience practicing law than Kavanaugh. His career was (a) lackey for Ken Starr (b) second/third chair on briefs for clients of a big firm. Zero trials. Handful of oral arguments.
there's a lot that's disqualifying about Kavanaugh, but the harder question is what's *qualifying* about him bsky.app/profile/seth...

A serious attempt by legislators or a candidate to invalidate a plainly valid election to install someone who plainly lost the election as president is not a "legal hack" or "finalizing results". It is treason. It is a treason against the United States and its citizens. We shouldn't dance around it.

You may recall that uniquely among modern Presidents, Biden was denied a transition period where the previous administration cooperated with the new one and had his cabinet nominations all blocked and delayed as much as possible by Mitch McConnell bsky.app/profile/jedr...
Taking the Oval Office is not an on-off switch, you do not get a massive data dump into your brain the moment you become President. Your people need to find out what's going on and bring it to you.

Everything is bad but also in the past seven days: ✅ Donald Trump became a convicted felon ✅ Steve Bannon had his bail revoked and must go to jail ✅Alex Jones was forced to liquidate his assets to pay Sandy Hook families. We’re on a little bit of a heater so let’s enjoy it for once.

The thing that makes me so despondent whenever people say “comedy/sarcasm does not work on social media” is that social media is just writing and people have been successfully doing humor and sarcasm through writing for ages It’s not that it “doesn’t work” it’s that it’s an art that you’re bad at
Comedy is once again legal

First they came for Donald Trump Then, everyone just kept living their lives, mostly.

It’s hilarious Republicans spent the week arguing Alito’s flags are irrelevant and don’t mean anything and then the second a jury finds Trump guilty they all fly flags meaning exactly what they said Alito’s didn’t

There is no justifying felons being disenfranchised if it’s also okay for felons to run for president.

I'll add just this: The feeling that the fascist leader is inevitable is a phantasm that they all prop up, in order to cow their opposition. You can't fight "inevitable." We don't have to prop up the myth. Trump isn't inevitable. He lost in 2020. He loses every time he stands trial.

I hope people understand that what we are seeing is the systematic destruction of the civil war amendments by the Supreme Court, which are what made America and actual democracy and upon which all minority rights in the United States rely
