God bless those who are strategic, not egotistical, when engaging in politics.

The States Project is one of the best bang-for-your-buck options for your campaign donations. Even beyond it, though, state legislatures deserve your attention. Next time you're tempted to send money to whoever's going to lose to MTG, send it instead to a contested state leg seat.
Looking for one person to join me today in donating to flipping both statehouses in Arizona to create a new trifecta for democracy. This is the smartest political donation we can make this year.

Just at the most basic level it is really unhealthy to have to thought about Donald Trump as much as everyone in America has over the last nine or so years. Spending a decade of my life thinking about a super boring, super shitty crook and all the bad stuff he's doing or might do. It's embarrassing.

I’m all in favor of meeting people where they are, but this dynamic annoys the hell out of me. No, I won’t perform melodramatic outrage for you to accept that I agree with you.
Me: This is bad Agitated People: You’re not sufficiently upset about it, you’re not saying explicitly enough how bad it is to meet my emotional needs, I am going to stand here and soil myself while maintaining eye contact until you are as emotive as I am

Fuck all your doomposting. No one who has ever accomplished anything did it by giving up and whining that there was nothing to do, the bad guys won and we are all doomed. Defeatism is death.

The priest loses the plot when asserting that the Internet created weird misogynists, but the rest of his response here is a great summary of the conflict between sincere religious practice and right wing authoritarianism
You just so rarely see a Priest body someone so hard

As a tween I could reach any phone in town by dialing 5 digits with a rotary dial. Private phone conversations required an extra-long cord.
Reskeet how old you are, using a vague proxy. When I was 19, swimming was banned at the beach where I was a lifeguard because medical waste was washing up onshore. It made national news and popped up in We Didn’t Start The Fire.

There’s a reason why a faction of the right desperately wants to eliminate no-fault divorce and contraception.
No-fault divorce led to a 20% decline in women’s suicide. I’m struggling to foment a response that isn’t just OMFG. Thank goodness we have no-fault divorce, and holy shit what a condemnation of our culture. The implications are just appalling, all the way through.

Yes, please. And any Democrat who doesn't immediately switch to "Convicted Felon Donald Trump" for all references to him is committing political malpractice.
i genuinely think the smart political move is for biden to hold a rally tomorrow where he taunts trump and says america will not have a felon for president.

Yes, as through this world I've wandered I've seen lots of funny men Some will rob you with a six-gun And some with a fountain pen And as through your life you travel Yes, as through your life you roam You won't never see an outlaw Drive a family from their home
Bosses are *found guilty* of stealing more from their employees' earned wages each year than the total that is *reported stolen* in robberies, break ins, & auto thefts. Reported stolen wages >> found guilty stolen wages > reported stolen property.

This is a really positive sign. Some members of Congress (e.g., Cori Bush) have called for Alito to resign. Here, Jamie Raskin argues that Congress can use statutory law regarding judicial impartiality to compel recusal. I think congressional Dems are beginning to take the MAGA Court seriously.

Folks don't want to hear it, because I get that it doesn't feel like this, but someone should say it anyway: forcing yourself to watch trauma videos is self harm, and it is main character syndrome. The world is not better if you self-traumatize, and watching them is not building empathy with victims

Yep. And little to no chance of getting prosecuted for fraud, since cops will never want a public record of being bamboozled
The most successful scammers are the ones who figure out how to sell their junk to cops. No civilian oversight of their budgets or auditing their spending. It’s lifetime income, lifetime support upsells, ever-expanding market because there’s always money for cops to buy more crap.

"Why are our politics so hostile?" Oh, I dunno, but one factor is how rich scumbags, unsatisfied with unimaginable wealth, have declared war on the rest of the population and are trying to extract even more from people who live paycheck-to-paycheck. That tends to raise the temperature, y'know?

I mean ... it's also wrong. 2024 isn't the most important election of your lifetime. 2016 was. We fucked it up. 2024 is just another year of trying to put the toothpaste back into the toothpaste tube with chopsticks, and it's grim and boring and timeconsuming and it sucks but also it is what it is.

So many of the Founders were epic holders of grudges. Was that just an 18th century intellectual thing, or a quirk of this group?
Ben Franklin predicted a guy’s death to make fun of him for believing in astrology, falsely recorded the guy’s death on that date, and when the guy insisted he wasn’t dead, kept writing articles like “some sick fuck is trying to steal a dead guy’s identity”
